Student Guides

The Guide to

Students Guides

Formerly: The Purple Tree Project

In the Spring of 2011, Ty Spradley challenged the groups in his Principles of Leadership class to develop an idea that would benefit the SFA community. It was a serious challenge; accompanied by clips from Pay-it-forward.

Our idea, was to provide a forum for students to communicate their version / perspective / interpretations of the environment at SFA in an honest and positive way and to share information about certain aspects of the SFA culture with other students.

Student Guides are guides, for students and by students.

Our goal is to have an honest and positive tone, while providing students with access to information about SFA that hasn’t been pre-filtered by faculty and administration. We also hope to provide the information in a format that is easy to access and organized in a way that makes sense to students at SFA.

We are NOT associated with the University. Opinions found here may be very different from the official standpoint of the school and will likely even conflict with other opinions found here. The reader is responsible for validating accuracy of information and deciding which opinions most closely reflect their own.

The opinions expressed in the Guides are NOT the opinions of Surfin’ Steve or its operators. They are the opinions of SFA students and alumni who write the Student Guides

The opinions expressed in the Guides are NOT the opinions of Ty Spradley who originally inspired us to (independently) come up with this platform.

We hope you will find a diverse and refreshing set of perspectives within the guides. We also hope that you will get more out of your time at SFA because of what you find here.

If you are inspired by what you read, please consider sharing what you know about an aspect of SFA you are familiar with. To propose an article, fill out the form here.

We are currently taking advantage of Google Docs to create our articles. If your request if approved (and it likely will be), we will provide your Google Docs account with access to the article. It isn’t much harder than using Microsoft Word or a similar word processor. The account is free, so it won’t cost you anything. Access to editing a guide can be done from any web browser. It only takes a few minutes to be up and running.

By accepting this responsibility you will be agreeing to contribute your ideas to the Surfin’ Steve project and the responsibility of keeping you Guide up to date as the community changes.

The structure we have in place also allows you to pass on or share access to a document. When the time comes for you to pass the baton, you will have the primary responsibility to select someone else to carry on the upkeep of that subject. Please take this into consideration before taking on this role.

You may chose to publish your article anonymously or credit yourself as the author. In either situation, the guide should not be used for illegal purposes or to unjustly attack any individual or group.

Surfin’ Steve reserves the right (but shall have no obligation) to pre-screen, review, flag, filter, modify, refuse or remove any or all Content.

Some information found here may be similar to information available from other sources, including the official SFA website. Some information will eventually become out-of-date.
